Peter McDonough Memorial Scholarship Instructions
The following are instructions and information for candidates in the Perinton Historical Society’s historical research essay scholarship program.
The Perinton Historical Society will award two (2) $1,000 scholarships in 2012.

Eligibility
- Participants must be a member of a high school level senior class, and must reside within the geographic boundaries of the Fairport Central Schools district.
Requirements
- Participates must write a research paper concerned with some phase of Fairport and/or Perinton history.
- The research paper must incorporate original research.
- All research must be accurately documented in the paper. Quoted, paraphrased, and summarized information must be credited.
Responsibilities of the Candidate
- All research must be personally conducted by the candidate. The student may begin research at any time.
- All writing and revising of the research paper must be done by the student.
- Students are encouraged to utilize resources within the community, including the Perinton Historian, and the Fairport Historical Museum, the home of the Perinton Historical Society. Visit www.perintonhistoricalsociety.org for museum hours and additional contact information.
Rules for Submission
- Candidates must submit their scholarship application and research paper within the timeframe specified by Fairport-Perinton Dollars for Scholars (typically in late February – check with the FHS Guidance Library for specific information).
- Papers should be written with a word processing program such as Microsoft Word, or a similar compatible program.
Judging Procedures
- In order to maintain impartiality, any references to the identity of the author will be removed or disguised. Judges will not know the identity of the author of all research papers submitted for consideration.
- A team of judges will evaluate the papers, based upon a timeline consistent with the Dollars for Scholars program.
- Papers will be judged on historical accuracy, impact of the topic on Perinton or Fairport history, and literary merit.
Disposition of Research Papers
- The research papers will become the property of the Perinton Historical Society, and may be reproduced at the discretion of the Society.
- Acceptable papers will be placed in a collection at the Perinton Historical Society. Copies will also be made available for use at the Fairport Public Library and the Fairport High School Library. Papers may also be located on our website at www.PerintonHistoricalSociety.org
